Consciously functional but also emotionally poetic, the objects Ferréol Babin creates are ambivalent, an original typological category between the archaic artefact and the ultra-contemporary product. They seek an intersection and a balance between controlling the material’s transformation and the need to allow the material itself to suggest its own modification. Produced as one-offs or small series and marked by refined purity of form, they are experiments inspired by craftsmanship. The French designer seems to set out to discover – or perhaps conserve – a deeply human dimension and a relationship of essential connection with nature, its materials, and its life cycles.
