Now on view and welcoming visitors, “PORCH”, organized by the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, DesignConnects, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, explores the American porch as a space of generosity, community, and cultural expression. Together with Marlon Blackwell Architects, D.I.R.T. studio, and TEN x TEN, Stephen Burks Man Made was part of the curatorial design team responsible for the welcoming design of the US Pavilion at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
Incorporating their recent Ancestors sculptural work in ceramics, Stephen Burks Man Made’s new molded plywood Birth rocking chair, Broom Thing and Spruce from Berea College Student Craft, and ten unique Gee’s Bend quilts made in collaboration with Italian fabric house DEDAR MILANO, the definition of PORCH-ness is expanded to include the familiar and unfamiliar handcrafted objects of the interior that allows us to belong.
Outside, Stephen Burks Man Made partnered with DEDON to present a bespoke version of KIDA collection with custom patchwork and quilted upholstery.
