DESIGN ET MERVEILLEUX

December 1, 2018 - April 21, 2019

Musée d'art moderne, Saint-Priest-en-Jarez, France

The notion of ornament in design evolves and is inspired by patterns and decorative systems of nature. By combining these forms with new technologies and new materials, the creation of design objects is transformed.

Curated by Marie-Ange Brayer and Martine Dancer-Mourès, this exhibition tells an unprecedented story of design where the ornament is explored in its dimension of morphogenesis, transformation of forms in the digital age.

The installation appears as a digital “cabinet of curiosities,” telling an unprecedented history of design through a hundred major works by French and international designers, mainly from the collections of Mnam / CCI, Center Pompidou, and FNAC.

Designers on view include: Laure Albin Guillot, Alisa Andrasek, François Azambourg, Aldo Bakker, Gijs Bakker, Aurel Bauh, Mathias Bengtsson, Francis Bitonti, Tord Boontje, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Andrea Branzi, François Brument and Ammar Eloueini, Fernando & Humberto Campana, Louise Campbell, Wendell Castle, DEMAKERSVAN, Benjamin Dillenburger, André Dubreuil, EZCT – Architecture & Design Research, Vincent Fournier, Thonet Brothers, Franck Gehry, Benjamin Graindorge and Ymer & Malta, Michael Hansmeyer, Junya Ishigami, Pierre Jahan, Hella Jongerius, Patrick Jouin, Andrew Kudless, Shiro Kuramata, Joris Laarman, Matthieu Lehanneur, Ross Lovegrove, nendo, Neri Oxman, Casey Reas, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Aleksandrina Rizova, Il Hoon Roh, Philippe Starck, Frank Tjepkema, David Trubridge, Olivier Van Herpt, Joseph Walsh, Marcel Wanders, and Eugen Wiskovsky.
