With the exhibition "Beastly Beautiful," the DLM puts the ambivalent aesthetics of its exhibits into focus and takes its own collection into focus.

Which animal raw materials were and are used by humans and for what? What role does the division of animal species into domestic and domestic animals or the cultural meanings ascribed to animals play? How do they affect fashion? And what do we mean by species protection and veganism? The sustainability of the leather material is not neglected either.

Starting from the redesigned studio space, a course leads through the exhibition rooms of the DLM and invites visitors to look at the objects from the perspective of the questions raised. More than 50 exhibits tell about the handling of animals, their utilization and appropriation by humans and also make social change readable. The presentation of the collection is enriched by contemporary artistic positions by Fernando and Humberto Campana, Heide Hatry, Christian Jankowski, Eva Ruhland and Marcel Walldorf, who enter into dialogue with the objects.

The exhibition is animal beauty? is part of the cooperation project Artentreffen along S-Bahn line 8 with the Art and Culture Foundation Opelvillen Rüsselsheim and the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden. Artentreffen is funded by the Frankfurt RheinMain Cultural Fund.
