Zhang Huan: Ashman
July 7 - September 12, 2010

The first European retrospective exhibition on Zhang Huan, one of the most important Chinese contemporary artists. Live performing, photography, sculpture, video, painting are for Zhang Huan the instruments to re-establish a contact with his cultural root and with the traditions of Chinese culture, giving life to an intimate relationship with past, nature, history and – of course – himself. The exhibition offers an overview of the artistic research of this master with 42 artworks, coming from important collections worldwide: from his early 90's performances until his most recent works created using ash picked up from the Buddhist temples, which have soon become the most significant pieces of his artistic production.
